Roy Ayers not only being an accomplished musician, has also turned his hand to production. During the early part of the seventies he always had an important part to play in the production of his albums, However, his first self produced album during this period was entitled "Coffy" released in 1973. However,
being the busy man that he is, he became involved in a separate project
through the ABC record label, renown very much for its gospel connections
at that time. The line up was made up of musicians which Roy had assembled together himself and collectively the group was called RAMP. This was an abbreviation of Roy-Ayers-Music-Productions. One of the more noticeable tracks off this album was the cover version of the awesome "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" and others include"Daylight" and "I Still Love You". There are some serious classics on this LP! The album was released in 1977 and for the collectors of his music, has become one of his most sought after albums. Some while later in 1980, he had set up two of his own labels, namely Uno Melodic and Gold Mink. He introduced many talented musicians and vocalists through those labels. Many of the Uno Melodic/Gold Mink crew broke through into the Roy Ayers Ubiquity fold during the Eighties. |
